For me June isn’t quite yet summer, I feel as if July is really when the season starts but considering for the past few years here in Norway the nicest weather has been in May or June, you just have to take summer when it comes. So I spent June, soaking it all up just in case it’s all we get. So go buy a watermelon and sit in the sun while you can cause it will be over sooner than we think. Here are my some things from June I definitely recommend.
Bar Sparta (Mariboes Gate 2b)
Sometimes you need to leave your home wine bar and go outside and recently I went to this newish wine bar Sparta and oh my gosh I am obsessed with this place. It’s built in an old church and is just the most lovely place that is incredibly cozy and I can’t wait to visit again. Local friends, I will meet you here ANYTIME.
Deep Cover (Amazon Prime)
Three strangers meet at an improv club and then their life changes. This movie was so funny and ridiculous and was just an all around goofy time. I don’t want to spoil anything so you will just have to trust me and watch this, also who knew Orlando Bloom has some serious comedic chops. Watch watch!
If you’re a word enthusiast this podcast is for you, if you have ever wondered where does that word come from or why English is full of French words then lend your ears to this. Hosted by Jess Zafarris and Robb Watts, this funny show is both educational and entertaining.
Fåbro Gård ( Mustads Vei 12)
I need you to visit this garden, bakery, cafe, shop as soon as you can. It feels like Norwegian Martha Stewart built it, located on an old farm and everything about it from the walk over the waterfall to get there to the adorable tables located in the garden it is perfection. I hear there’s a new troll skulking around and that troll is me.
In July I’m visiting my family so as you can imagine we have been in serious menu planning mode and my mother recently wrote to me “we should make some serious dips”, and I’m in absolute agreement. Starting with this dip from Giada De Laurentiis, this artichoke and arugula dip is delicious and is vegetarian so it can be made for any gathering and will please everyone but you could also add Parmesan because you have free will. Family, I will see you for dip day in a couple weeks.
It’s summer and my hair is big and frizzy but this little tube of hair gel is my new secret weapon. Imagine a big tube of mascara but surprise it’s hair gel, this got2b Farewell Flyaways touch up brush is just so incredibly handy, it fits in a purse and dries so quickly that applying it in the bathroom then you can head back out to the table in ten seconds flat.
I cleaned up my utility closet and I felt like a new woman and now I’m on a roll! I’m putting the art on the wall that I’ve been meaning to put up, I got rid of multiple things that needed to be tossed including an old rain coat that was literally molting and multiple bags that I was saving because they “were cute” or “would make a good gift bag”. If you too are looking for some home motivation, I loved this article.
As someone who has lived in the land of the metric system for many years now I must admit, it makes a lot more sense. It is simply easier, and this hilarious video tells the history of the US and how we almost had it all.
This is all I want to eat for the next two months. Every summer when the watermelons hit the shelves I cannot help but purchase at least one a week and then I either slice it and just eat it like that; however when I really have my shit together, I’m making this salad. It’s perfect, the crunchy watermelon and cucumber, combined with the creamy avocado and feta, it’s salty and sweet and you can serve it with anything as a side or it’s absolutely great on its own.

What do you recommend this summer?
Don’t forget your cofffee,
Paige
