October
“Anyone could see that the wind was a special wind this night, and the darkness took on a special feel because it was All Hallows' Eve.“-The Halloween Tree
October was always a special month in my family, my mothers birthday and my brothers birthday, the harvest festival, crunchy leaves and of course Halloween. Full of tradition and surprise even as an adult, October never disappoints.
Renfield (Showtime)
Dracula and his familiar Renfield have come to New Orleans for a little rest and a new beginning. This movie was so fun, I’ve loved Nicholas Hoult since I watched him on Skins in high school and this might be Nicolas Cage’s best performance.
Parmesan Popcorn
It’s exactly what it sounds like, buttery popcorn topped with some freshly grated Parmesan. The nuttiness of the parm is the perfect accompaniment to the popcorn, you could add freshly cracked pepper too if you’re leaning more cacio e pepe.
Butternut Squash Pasta
I’m almost positive I’ve already recommended making the butternut squash you have hanging around your kitchen into pasta but I’m here doing it again. I swear I’m not being paid by big squash to say this but it’s so versatile, you can chop it up and roast it and make a fall inspired pasta salad with arugula and toasted pine nuts. You can purée it into sauce with cream, Parmesan, roasted garlic and Calabrian chilies, it’s so delicious. I definitely recommend.
From (TV2/Netflix/MGM+)
I am OBSESSED with this show, it’s creepy and scary and I love it. I don’t want to spoil anything so you just need to take my word on it that it’s amazing. So if you’re good with creepy and a little scary, watch! If you’re in Norway you can find season one on Netflix but the whole thing is available on TV2, if you’re in the US you’ll find it on MGM+ which you can sign up for a 7-day free trial and you should just to watch this!
Modern Love with Andrew Garfield
Such a beautiful episode of the Modern Love Podcast, Andrew Garfield has an incredible voice and his reading of “Learning to Measure Time in Love and Loss” by Chris Huntington was extraordinarily heartbreaking and moving. Listen with some tissues.
I have KP or keratosis pilaris aka that bumpy arm skin thing and I hate it and had resounded myself to struggling with it forever BUT I have found something that is actually helping! This cream from CeraVe has been genuinely helping, along with some extra exfoliating and then applying this cream post shower my arms are smoother and a lot less bumpy. I’ve been using it consistently for the past month and I’m really liking what I’ve seen.
A sweet baby pig was found wandering the airport in Chengdu China and was immediately rescued and taken home by an airport employee He Ling. This story is just so good and He Ling’s husband Feng Li has published a photography book called Pig about Piggy’s life in their apartment (that I would love for Christmas if my family is reading). If you click the link you get a little look into one cute apartment pig in this month’s National Geographic.
Another great article on finding one’s personal style, something the internet seems to be obsessed with. I along with Amy Francombe, the author of this article and I both agree that finding one’s personal style is mostly about finding what you feel comfortable in and just wearing that. For example I feel most like myself dressed like a cross between Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and an old British man.
I love Ina Garten, I’ve loved her since 2002 when I was watching Barefoot Contessa. I frequently quote her with the classics “store bought is fine” and my favorite “Jeffrey’s gonna love this”, I love everything about her and how she has always only wanted to be herself.
